Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” What makes us who we are is not our complexion, height, religion, or tribe. It is the way we think. For example, you say politicians are very corrupt; it is not because someone is a politician that makes him corrupt. Rather, that person is already corrupt whether he is a doctor, lawyer, engineer, lecturer or an accountant. Politics only gave him a bigger opportunity to display who he already was. Remember there is this popular story where a math teacher gave the students a difficult question to solve and told them that she did not expect anyone to solve it but they should only attempt it. So the only student who got it correct was the one who went to use the toilet and did not hear the teacher’s comment. So he went out believing he could solve the assignment. The others failed not because they were not capable but they did not believe they could do it. It is all about the mind. The human brain and thoughts are very powerful.
Some people say the problem I have is I am poor, I don not have any helper, my family are subsistence farmers or petty traders. You are not poor because you don not have money, you are poor because your mind is poor. There is a way that rich and wealthy people think and even if the whole money in the world is given to you, you will waste it and destroy yourself because you are mentally poor. Michael Carroll was a garbage man in England when, at age 19, he won £9.7 million (almost 5 billion naira today) in the lottery in 2002. He spent the money on a mansion, drugs and gold jewelry. Then years later 2012, he was broke and working in a slaughter house to survive. So most people think the problem is money however, the problem is your mind, because no amount of money can change the mind of a mentally poor man, unless he decides to change his way of thinking.
Some people are always afraid, their thoughts are always fearful. I think I will die, I think I will not make it and so on. These evil thoughts are of the devil so rebuke them in the name of Jesus. James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee.” FEAR is false evidence appearing real. So overcome them with positive thoughts. See what the bible says about what we should think about in Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” You attract what you think about. If you think positively you will attract positive things and vice versa.
