Good day dear listeners and welcome again to overcoming temptations, My name is Oyisi Okatahi. Today our topic is titled “What is that in your hand”.
Today our Bible passage is taken from Exodus 4: Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. 3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
God wanted Moses to go to Egypt and deliver the children of Israel from slavery. Moses had countless of excuses not to go, he said he stammered, he said they will not believe him, he said he was not competent enough and so on. But look at what God said in verse 2 “What is that in your hand” and Moses replied a staff or stick. King James version uses the word rod. God used that same staff to perform many miracles. The staff was used to produce water from the rock, the staff was changed into a snake and back to a staff, it was used to divide the red sea, so that the people could walk on dry land. The parting of the red sea is considered on the greatest miracles in history. Anyway God used what Moses had in his hands to perform many miracles. Moses never knew that his staff had such great powers until God drew his attention to it. The question for you today is what is that in your hands. There is something great God has deposited in you that you may not be seeing. Many people are waiting for one prophet or millionaire to come and bless them or to change their lives, meanwhile what God has given you is there in your hands. He has given you a talent, an ability, an opportunity, a challenge that is the key to your success. HE has given everyman something unique, you need to find and apply yours.
Let me share a story of Colonel Harland Sanders from the United States. He was a business man and tried several business from filling stations to hotels. However he was not quite satisfied at his performances. When he was about 60 years and should think of retiring, he asked himself what really can he do well. What does he have in his hands. The answer was simple he could fry chicken very well. Over the years he had a special recipe of 11 herbs and spices. When he fried chicken for his friends and neighbors, they will always complement him. So he started a fried chicken business and called it Kentucky Fried Chicken. He began to franchise business and it grew tremendously. Today there are more than 18,000 KFC outlets in 115 countries worldwide, in fact we have outlets in Abuja, Lagos, Ilorin, Enugu and Ibadan. So it is never too late to discover what you have in your hand, whenever you apply it God uses it to bring success to you. Do not try to be like another person, everyone has his own distinct gift and talent. You are best when you apply the gift God has placed in your hands.
The bible says in Proverbs 10:4 says Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands lead to wealth.
Find and use what God has placed in your hands. You are bound to succeed. Have a blessed day.
