Hello Dear Listeners, welcome to overcoming temptations. My name is Oyisi. Today our topic is titled: Skill will bring success.
Skill is the ability or capacity to do something well. To be skillful means to be an expert in doing something.
The bible in Ecclesiastes 10:10 says NKJV If the axe is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success. The message translation says: Remember: The duller the axe the harder the work; Use your head: The more brains, the less muscle and NIV translation says: If the axe is dull, and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.
So when you are skillful in what you do you are sure to succeed. With skills a difficult task is made easier and faster. However skill is a combination of several things. 1. Training: Skill comes when you have been trained or mentored by someone who is also skillful. You can also do self training based on materials written by others.
- Practice: You need practice to become skillful, you cannot be an expert by doing something one time, but when you practice again and again to develop your skill.
- Experience: You need experience to become skillful, people say experience is the best teacher. You need to have gone through the process and learn from mistakes to become skillful. 4. Knowledge: You need knowledge. This is very important. You must have knowledge of the principle and laws that govern what you do, and know the best way to do it.
So for example let us take a carpenter and apply this four things. 1. Training: The carpenter will learn by being trained as an apprentice, here he will able to watch how furniture is made and also try to do it himself. 2. Practice: He will then practice by making some furniture himself, the more he makes the better he gets. 3. Experience: From experience he will learn how to manage his business by showing potential clients samples of his work, taking a deposit before starting any job, estimating the time to finish a job so his customers are not disappointed, some things will not be taught by the instructor but by experience. 3. Knowledge: So he knows that one of the best hardwood to use for furniture is mahogany. However his client who wants outdoor furniture and cannot afford mahogany so he proposes cedar that is cheaper and has rain and moisture resistance and will not get rotten easily. His ability to find cheaper and good alternative for customers comes with knowledge.
So skill will bring you success. People will patronize and respect you when you have skill. No one was born an expert they had to develop their skills so you can also develop yours. Have a blessed day.
