Good day dear listeners and welcome to overcoming temptations, my name is Oyisi Okatahi today I will like to continue sharing on the bible story called Samson and Delilah, this is part 2.
So in the last episode, I shared an introduction on Samson. His birth, his purpose and his strengths. So today we shall look more on his relationship with this woman called Delilah
Remember that Satan through the Lords of the Philistines was trying to destroy Samson and they had commissioned this beautiful woman Delilah to discover the secret of his strength.
So I read from Judges 16:6. “So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you.”Ok, so I will like to ask you can anything be cleared than this? This woman did not pretend or code it, she asked him plainly to tell her how he can be destroyed. Now let us continue to read from verse 7-9 And Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man.” So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, and she bound him with them. Now men were lying in wait, staying with her in the room. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he broke the bowstrings as a strand of yarn breaks when it touches fire. So the secret of his strength was not known. Ok, So at this point is clear to even my 5 years old Daughter that Delilah wanted to destroy Samson, she asked for his secret and when he told her (although he lied) she asked his enemies’ to try the very thing that he told would make him weak.
If we continue to read the passage we would see that Delilah kept asking Samson the secret of his power and each time he told her, she will call his enemies to try out that secret, this happen 3 times. So let us continue our reading from Judges 16: 15-18 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.” 16 And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death, 17 that he told her all his heart, and said to her, “No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.” 18 When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.” So the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand. 19 Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him,[a] and his strength left him. 20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.
Wow very sad, can you imagine this, how could someone be so blind. It does not make sense, how can you walk into the trap of your enemies with your two eyes opened. However this is true of many of us today, may God open our spiritual eyes. That man or woman that you are sleeping with and is not your husband or wife is a Delilah in your life. You may say he is by boyfriend or she girl friend, but hey it does not matter he or she is a Delilah, remember I said the Hebrew translation of the name Delilah mean to weaken or to make poor, so when you commit fornication you only weaken yourself and destroy your destiny. Many people like Samson are handing over their destinies for destruction, even when it is clear that your relationship with this person is affecting your marriage, your job, your finances, your life and so on, yet you hold on to that relationship. May the healing power of the blood of Jesus, deliver you.
Let us continue our reading Judges 16: 21 Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison. Why did they cut out his eyes, why not his hands or nose, because Samson was spiritually blind, Satan also made him physically blind. He wanted to mock him that his blindness was the source of his destruction. Hellen Keller was a blind woman who achieved great things and she was asked what is worse than blindness? And she replied to have eyes but unable to see. May God open our spiritual eyes to see evil and grant us the grace to flee in Jesus name.
Another lesson is that Delilah continued to trouble Samson until he fell, now Satan has nothing good about him, but if he has any virtue it is patience, he can continue to tempt you continuously until you fall, so you have to resist him.
I read the last verse Judges 16:22- However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven. Like Samson, your hair shall grow again, it does not matter how many abortions you have done or how many people you have slept with, there shall be a restoration, Like Samson you shall still achieve your purpose, but I tell you give your life to Christ today, you can pray and say Lord I accept you today into my life, save me and change me in Jesus name. Build yourself through daily bible reading and prayers and find a bible believing church to attend. Your hair will grow again. Have a blessed day.
