Good day dear listeners and welcome to overcoming temptations, my name is Oyisi Okatahi today I will like to share with you on a bible story called Samson and Delilah, this is part 1. Again just to remind that this program is not to judge or condemn anyone but to encourage you that it is possible to live a life free from sexual immorality by the power of God that works within us.
Now who was Samson? Samson was one of the strongest men that ever lived, Samson was granted supernatural strength by God in order to fight his enemies and perform heroic things such as killing a lion with his hands and slaying the entire Philistine army with only the jawbone of a donkey. He was extremely physically strong.
Samson was a promised child, the Angel of the Lord appeared to his Mother Manoah’s wife who was barren and had never had a child, the Angel told her that she will birth a great child, but the child had to live by some conditions, he should never cut his hair, he should never drink alcohol and never touch anything unclean such as a dead body. He was to be a Nazarite, in Hebrew tradition a Nazarite is one who is separated or consecrated and has taken a vow to serve God. You can look this up in Numbers 6:1- 8. Now Samson’s purpose in life was very clear, he was to deliver the Israelites from their enemies the Philistines. In those days the Philistines oppressed the children of Israel. The idea was that the children of Israel kept sinning against God and he allowed their enemies to overpower them, when they repent he will send a Judge or Deliver to save them.
Now like many normal people, Samson made mistakes in life and violated some of the commandments of God. But I will like to concentrate on a particular area of Samson’s life and it is with this woman called Delilah. Now it will be interesting to bear in mind the meaning of the names Samson and Delilah. Samson in Hebrew means Sun, S-U-N the suns that shines. So he was a deliverer and his power was as bright as the sun. While Delilah in Hebrew means to weaken or to make poor,, and that was exactly what she did to Samson she weakened him.
Now I read from Judges 16:4-5 New King James Version: Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 5 And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”
We need to understand we have one common enemy one adversary, Satan, who is constantly looking for ways to destroy us. Satan will want to destroy you if he knows that you are a threat to him or will be a potential threat to him, The Lord of the Philistines asked this beautiful woman called Delilah whose name meant to weaken, to find out by enticing Samson through fornication and passion the secret of His great strength. Today this strategy is still used by Satan on many men, he has positioned a beautiful woman in your life and her job is to entice you and ultimately destroy you. Of course this can be the other way round, Satan can position a man in the life of a woman and his job is to entice her through money , fame, power or sex and ultimately destroy her.
There is more to talk on about on this topic but time is not our side, I will continue this topic on the next episode by Gods grace, for now I live you with this advice “beware of Delilah”, God bless you and have fulfilled day ahead.
