Hello Dear Listeners, welcome to overcoming temptations. My name is Oyisi Okatahi. Today our topic is titled: Guard your Children. This message is as a result of the unspeakable things that people do to young children, the bible says in Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Child sexual abuse is often not reported how in the United States about 2 million children are sexually abused every year.
So parents and guardians you need to guard and protect your children. Step 1. Do not expose you children to sexual things. For instance some parents allow their children watch adult films and home movies or cartoons with kissing and say it does not matter. Children learn by observation and within a moment they are kissing their friend to practice what they watched. You should monitor strictly what your children watch on TV. Some parents also curdle or involve in sexual acts in front of their children. Sex is private and it is not for the consumption of anyone not even your children. If you live in a one room then demarcate it to give yourself privacy.
Step 2. Monitor who looks after your children. Sometimes you live your children to house helps, neighbors, Uncles or Aunties who could be sexually abusing the children. Some parents are so busy pursuing money that they do not know what goes on in their homes. There are stories that an Uncle will sexually abuse a young girl, some as young as one year old, this is wickedness but it happens. Many young girls have been abused by one relative or the other but out of fear, shame or just ignorance they can’t tell anyone. Such people should seek Godly counsel. Don’t live your child with anyone that you do not trust, if you can afford it put a video camera in your home so you can monitor what happens in your absence. Train your child that no one should kiss them or touch their private parts not even relatives. The world is so wicked so you need to take extra steps to protect your child. Do not allow your child sleep over at a place you are not 100% sure of, if they have a phone check their phones and makes sure they are not keeping wrong relationships. Also do not overdo it, if you are too protective, it could have a negative impact and make the child rebellious, rather do everything in love and explain your reasons so they understand.
Step 3. Train you children in the things of God. Gen 18:19 says For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” You see God chose Abraham because He knew he will train his children in the things of God. The fact you are born again does not mean your children are automatically born again. There are many Christian families whose children follow them to church every Sunday but this children don’t even know God, they have no personal relationship with Christ. That is why several Pastor’s children are involved in one scandal or the other. So you need to lead you children to Christ, let them know what it means to be saved and the benefits of righteousness. Explain the Bible to them and let them use it to guide their lives. Since you can’t give what you don’t have, develop yourself in God so that you can pass it on to your children.
