Hello Dear Listeners, welcome to overcoming temptations. My name is Oyisi. Today our topic is titled: God rules in the affairs of men.
Our bible reading is taken from Daniel 4:17. It says KJV ” This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.”
Let read us read it with the message translation : The angels announce this decree, the holy watchmen bring this sentence, So that everyone living will know that the High God rules human kingdoms. He arranges kingdom affairs however he wishes, and makes leaders out of losers.
Now there was this great King of Babylon called Nebuchadnezzar, he was very great and powerful and no nation could fight against him. Nebuchadnezzar thought that it was by his own power and wisdom that he had achieved so much and did not recognize God as the source of his greatness. So God humbled Nebuchadnezzar by stripping him of his power and glory and giving him the mind of an animal for 7 years until he acknowledged that it is God that rules human Kingdoms.
Leadership is a function of Divine grace, the best and most qualified person may not always be the leader, because God can choose any one even a loser and establish him as the leader. God can change event, remove opposition just to pave a way for the leader of His choice. The beauty of it is that when God is your father, you do not need any other God father or connection to get a position, because God in His power can give it to you. The passage we read in Daniel 4:17 says that God can give power to anyone he likes even people who we think are irrelevant. Unfortunately many people like Nebuchadnezzar do not recognize God as the source of power, they think it their scheming, lobbying, or bribing that can give them power and rather than rely on God they rely on men, money, or divination like witchcraft. Any source of power outside God is sure to fail, if not immediately then eventually. God does not need anyone’s permission before he appoints someone, he will do it in his own way at his own time. All you need to do it to trust in Him and hold your peace. God rules in the Kingdoms of men.
Another unlikely person that God decided to choose was King David. He was the last son of his parents, and by virtue of his position no one will ever think he will be king. Even when Samuel told Jesse David’s father that God had chosen one of his sons as king. Jesse presented all his sons to Samuel but did not consider David because he could not imagine that he will amount to such greatness. However because David loved, feared and honored God. God decided to choose him. God does no choose people based on appearance but based on their heart and their desire to obey his Word.
So are you trusting God for a promotion or position. Hold your peace and trust God, once you have done what is required of you, leave the remaining to God. He is able to uplift you in Jesus name. Have a blessed day.
