Good day dear listeners and welcome again to overcoming temptations, My name is Oyisi Okatahi. Today our topic is titled “Consulting a Medium”
Now what or who is a medium, a medium is someone who can foretell the future by using evil powers. This can also be described as a witch, familiar spirit, wizard, prophet, sorcerer or necromancer, seer. In our local culture this is called babalawo, priest, oracle or medicine man.
Now why do people go to these people? Very simple, they want to know the future. Almost every human being wants to know what will happen in their future. You want to know where you will be next year or in year 2020. You want to know who you will marry, or how your business will perform, or how your career will be, or if you should embark on a journey, or if you will win the 2015 elections next year. There is nothing wrong in a desire to know the future, but what is very wrong is if you go about it in a wrong way.
Now there are people who have the power to foretell the future, what is important is what is the source of that power? Anyone one that contradicts the bible is not of God.
Let us read a scripture from the Bible. 1 Chronicles 10:13 NIV translation says Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance. King James Version says So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it. This verse summarizes the life of King Saul. Saul was the first King of Israel, he and his sons died in a battle with the Philistines. He did not die because his enemies were stronger than him or because he was weak or poor. The spiritual reason he died is because he disobeyed God and consulted a medium or witch.
If you patronize anyone who foretells your future by using demonic powers, you will destroy yourself. The next verse 1 Chronicles 10:14 says and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse. So God expects you to ask him about the future and not the devil. When you ask God he may choose not to answer you, however in His own time and way He will respond. God is not a magician that must always give you an immediate solution, He is God and He does as He pleases not the way you and I want it.
The bible in Leviticus 19:31 says Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Let me tell you if you are going to any fortune teller you will certainly destroy yourself, please stop before it is too late.
In 1 Samuel 28, when Saul was about to fight the Philistines and was not sure if he will win. He decided to go to a witch in Endor and asked her to call up the Spirit of Samuel. The Spirit of Samuel the Prophet came up, but of course this was not really Samuel but only a demon disguised like Samuel, the Spirit told Saul In 1 Samuel 28: 19 – The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The real Samuel was in Heaven so there was no way Saul could join him since he had backslided and rejected God. Also a witch does not have powers to call out the spirit of a righteous man. Any way exactly what the spirit said came to pass, and Saul was killed in battle. Let no one deceive you the devil has powers, however our joy is that the Bible says in 1 John 4:4 Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. It says in John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. So we are overcomers through Christ Jesus but we need to live a life that is righteous.
Beloved do not consult a medium, Babalawo, seer, false prophet or witch doctor. It is a very serious sin against God. Trust God for you future, Jeremiah 29: 11 says For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Your future is in God’s hands just be prayerful and ask him to show you, and it shall be well with you in Jesus name. Have a blessed day.
